The former Magnum Photos head office is being restructured by Axel Schoenert architects.
The project involves upgrading the building, which dates from the 1920s, and creating a timber-framed elevation. It opens up a dialogue between ancient and contemporary architecture, through the existing atypical brick structure and the new wooden one. The project is also part of a strong environmental approach to the rehabilitation of existing buildings and sustainable construction, in order to limit the building's carbon footprint as much as possible.
The building will have an atypical yet modern appearance, giving it an iconic character within the district. Resolutely green, the project includes numerous green roof spaces, with the idea of creating a true receptacle of nature on the top floor.
